If leather products are left untreated, they are more likely to face significant damage from water – something to be mindful of with the UK’s wet climate. When water penetrates the surface of the leather, it causes all the natural oils to float to the top. A lack of these natural oils leads the material to dry out, which can result in the surface of your leather cracking.
Apart from cracking, the leather might discolour, stretch, or stain more easily. Avoid these by treating your leather products with natural oils that keep the material soft and supple. Treating your products before they are exposed to water, and the natural elements, will also prevent damage. Leather treatment products are available at all major retail outlets.
